We are incredibly excited to have on display the 1215 Magna Carta, a 1217 Charter of the Forest and a 1225 Charter of the Forest. And we are delighted to welcome Professor Stephen Church, providing an opportunity to discover more about the context of the three documents on display.
Magna Carta and the Forest Charter are an inseparable pair which have been together since 1217. These are the Charters of Liberties which have come down to us as enshrining the beginnings of the idea that monarchs had to rule according to the law. Lincoln possesses an unprecedented original engrossment of 1215 and two engrossments of the Forest Charter, one from 1217, the other from 1225. This talk will give a context to the creation of these texts and to their survival at Lincoln.
The talk is free to attend, but capacity is limited and booking in advance is essential to secure your place.
